Help Warriors and Families Heal from Invisible Wounds
Are you a Licensed Clinical Social Worker passionate about helping service members and their families navigate the psychological and social impact of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and related conditions? Do you want your clinical expertise to support a nationally recognized center of excellence? If so, this opportunity might be a perfect fit.
We are seeking a full-time Licensed Clinical Social Worker to support the Intrepid Spirit Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, part of the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) network. Working under a personal services arrangement, you'll provide comprehensive psychosocial evaluation, therapy, and care coordination to service members and beneficiaries affected by TBI and complex behavioral health needs, as part of an interdisciplinary team delivering integrated, evidence-based, patient-centered care.
What You'll Do
Clinical & Psychosocial Care
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial evaluations of outpatients and coordinate multidisciplinary treatment plans, with emphasis on complex, high-risk cases — including severe psychiatric illness, substance abuse, neurological disease, brain injury, abuse/neglect, financial exploitation, and patients who are unable to care for themselves.
- Provide brief strategic and crisis counseling for patients and families experiencing acute psychiatric distress.
- Provide individual, group, and comprehensive clinical family therapy, along with aftercare planning, across the patient lifespan — children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
- Deliver evidence-based treatment modalities appropriate to each patient's age and circumstances.
- Manage and coordinate continued care for beneficiaries dispersed across a large geographic area, including remote regions of the U.S. and overseas.
- Coordinate and implement discharge plans, arranging transition to the next level of care in compliance with the multidisciplinary treatment plan.
- Provide orientation to stakeholders and recipients of social work services.
- Formulate and conduct in-service training on complex social work topics for multidisciplinary treatment teams.
- Educate medical staff on the psychosocial impact of injury, discharge procedures, and community treatment resources.
- As directed, provide clinical oversight to psychiatry residents/fellows, psychology interns/residents, or social work interns/fellows, including initial evaluations, safety assessments, and individual, couples, family, or group therapy.
- Complete training to maintain competency in MHS Genesis, Dragon dictation software, and Microsoft Office programs.
- Prepare documentation meeting MTF standards for timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature, using DoD-approved abbreviations.
- Document and close notes in MHS Genesis within three (3) business days of patient encounters.
- Respond to beneficiary messages in the MHS Genesis secure portal within one (1) business day.
- Comply with regulatory, MTF, and Joint Commission quality inspection, peer review, and utilization management requirements.
Who You Are
- You're an experienced clinician who thrives working with complex, high-acuity cases involving trauma, brain injury, and behavioral health.
- You're compassionate and skilled at crisis intervention and building trust with service members and their families.
- You're comfortable coordinating care across dispersed and sometimes remote locations.
- You value teaching and mentoring — you enjoy training multidisciplinary teams and supervising trainees.
- You're mission-minded and want to support the military community in a meaningful way.
Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A doctoral degree in social work may not substitute for the MSW.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), verifiable through the Association of Social Work Boards.
- Clinical social work experience gained through a master's-level practicum or 2 years of post-MSW experience, with the most recent 3 years in a clinical/treatment setting.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or otherwise meet applicable base contract requirements.
- Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8- or 10-hour shifts (40 hours/week) within facility operating hours of 0600–1800.
- On-site at the Intrepid Spirit Center, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA; situational telework may be available per facility policy.
- Must possess and maintain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) matching the site of care.
- Must be able to pass a Tier III security investigation for access to this restricted military installation (Common Access Card required).
