Be the First Face of Germany for U.S. Military Newcomers
Do you love German culture and have a knack for making newcomers feel welcomed and informed? Are you equally comfortable in a kitchen, on a train platform, or leading a walking tour through ancient Roman ruins? If so, French Consulting wants you.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and culturally fluent Multicultural Program Coordinator to support U.S. military personnel and their families as they arrive at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. In this role, you will introduce them to local life through hands-on cooking classes, grocery store tours, and immersive day trips to Trier — helping them hit the ground running in their new home.
This is a meaningful, people-centered role that blends education, hospitality, and cultural ambassadorship. If you speak German, love to cook, and enjoy helping others navigate a new country, this is a great fit.
What You'll Do
Cultural Tours to Trier
- Tours to Trier guiding attendees through key historical sites including the Porta Nigra, Hauptmarkt, Dom, and Basilica
- Practical exposure to German culture including purchasing German-language train tickets, group lunch, and tours through local grocery stores
German Cooking Classes
- Facilitate cooking classes in the on-base kitchen
- Use seasonal German recipes to teach practical home cooking skills in an engaging, approachable way
Who You Are
- You are deeply knowledgeable about German culture, history, customs, and everyday life
- You communicate fluently in both German and English — including reading, writing, and speaking
- You have at least one year of teaching experience and have led formal or informal tour groups on at least five occasions
- You are comfortable cooking from recipes and can demonstrate dishes clearly and confidently in front of a group
- You carry yourself professionally and exercise tact and diplomacy when working with people of diverse military ranks, ages, and backgrounds
- You are organized, punctual, and reliable — mission requirements can change quickly and you adapt without missing a beat
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college or relevant vocational training preferred
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of formal or informal teaching experience (subject, setting, and class size must be verifiable by reference)
- Minimum 5 documented instances of leading tour groups in a cultural or educational context
Language Proficiency
- Full professional proficiency in both German and English — reading, writing, grammar, and speaking
Skills
- Ability to cook from recipes and demonstrate food preparation techniques
- Strong interpersonal and public-speaking skills
- Comfortable managing groups of up to 40 people in off-base environments
Work Authorization
- SOFA status with access to U.S. military installations; OR
- Legal authorization to work in Germany and ability to pass a police background investigation
Preferred
- Prior experience supporting military families or working on or near U.S. military installations
- Familiarity with the local Eifel region, Trier, and surrounding areas
