Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – ICU
Location: Evans Army Community Hospital (EACH), Fort Carson, CO
Start Date: ASAP – upon completion of onboarding and security verification
Schedule: 24/7 coverage; typically 12-hour shifts, 0700–1900 or 1900–0700, including nights, weekends, and on-call hours
Critical Care for Those Who Serve
Evans Army Community Hospital needs experienced ICU nurses to care for critically ill Soldiers, retirees, and military family members. You will provide advanced, specialized nursing care, make fast and confident assessments, and work side by side with physicians and a tight-knit care team.
When needs arise, you will also float to other inpatient areas, so you can keep growing your skills across the hospital.
What You’ll Do
Critical Care Nursing
- Provide advanced, specialized nursing care to complex, critically ill patients
- Continuously observe and monitor patients and intervene to prevent complications and restore health
- Interpret signs and symptoms of deterioration and promptly update the physician
- Assess cardiac output, vital signs, peripheral perfusion, and level of consciousness
- Administer and regulate IV fluids (such as lipids and blood volume expanders) and vasoactive drugs
- Administer emergency drugs as directed by a physician
Procedures & Emergencies
- Assist with endotracheal intubation, cardioversion, and insertion of invasive lines and chest tubes
- Insert IV catheters and perform venipunctures to collect blood samples
- Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react quickly in emergencies
- Apply infection control standards per unit and department operating instructions
Care Coordination & Education
- Coordinate patient care with a wide array of healthcare professionals to achieve optimal outcomes
- Perform physical exams and health histories, administer medications, and provide wound care
- Provide health promotion, counseling, and education to patients and families
- Guide and advise other healthcare team members and make patient care assignments based on scope of practice and skill level
- Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate
- Float to other inpatient areas as needed and ensure compliance with MTF policies and standards of care
Who You Are
- A skilled critical care nurse who stays calm and focused in high-acuity situations
- A sharp assessor who catches subtle changes in a patient’s condition early
- Comfortable collaborating with physicians and a diverse healthcare team
- Flexible and willing to float to other inpatient areas when the unit needs you
- Physically ready for a demanding role, including prolonged standing, walking, lifting, and positioning patients
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a program accredited by a recognized national nursing accreditation body (such as CCNE, or NLN/American Academy-accredited)
Experience
- At least two years of inpatient nursing experience within the past three years
- At least one year of that experience in an ICU setting
Certifications & Licensure
- Current BLS, ALS, and PALS certifications, maintained at your own expense
- Current, valid, unrestricted RN license
- Active license from any U.S. jurisdiction is acceptable for this position
- Must remain free of limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions
Eligibility
- U.S. citizenship (required for all positions on this contract)
- Ability to submit a complete qualifying package at least 15 days before placement
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and on-call hours as scheduled
- Meet DoD health requirements before placement
- Hepatitis B series with a positive titer; MMR and varicella (series or positive titer)
- Annual influenza vaccine and tuberculosis screening (2-step PPD or QuantiFERON)
