Make a Difference Behind the Mission
Are you fluent in both English and Italian — and do you want to use that rare skill to make a tangible difference in the lives of American military families living abroad?
We are seeking a Bilingual Support Assistant to serve U.S. service members, DA Civilians, and their families at the Army Community Service (ACS) Center on Caserma Ederle, Vicenza. Many of these families arrive in Italy with little or no Italian language experience and face immediate real-world challenges: understanding their utility bills, navigating Soggiorno Permit procedures, communicating at host nation appointments, and making sense of lease agreements written in a language they don’t speak. You are the bridge. Your bilingual expertise directly reduces stress, builds confidence, and helps families integrate successfully into the Italian community.
What You’ll Do
Interpretation and Translation
- You’ll provide verbal interpretation for walk-in customers within 15 minutes of request — in person and at host nation appointments and agencies.
- You’ll translate written documents up to three pages within two business days.
- You’ll assist community members with Soggiorno Permit extension procedures, utility bill interpretation, lease agreements, mechanical and electrical correspondence, and other Italian administrative documents encountered in daily life.
- You’ll translate ACS program materials and community integration resources as needed to support ACS workshops and outreach events.
- You’ll log all customer contacts in the Client Tracking System (CTS) daily and maintain a monthly translated document log submitted.
- You’ll support ACS staff meetings and participate in required training events.
- You are genuinely fluent in both English and Italian — not conversational, but fluent. You can translate nuance, not just words, and you understand the administrative and cultural context behind Italian government documents.
- You have empathy for the families you serve. You understand that a young spouse trying to navigate the Italian permit system for the first time is stressed and confused, and you approach that situation with patience and calm expertise.
- You are mission-oriented and professional.
- You are organized and consistent — CTS records get entered on time, document logs are accurate, and you manage a queue of translation requests without things falling through the cracks.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of documented work experience in administrative functions, customer service, and/or office operations.
- English language proficiency at Level 4 (Fluent) — reading, writing, and speaking. Certification or documented work experience evidence required.
- Italian language proficiency at Level 4 (Fluent) — reading, writing, and speaking. This is a mandatory dual-language requirement. Certification or documented work experience evidence required.
- Italian national or legally authorized resident with the right to work in Italy.
- Prior experience working with or for the U.S. military community in Italy, particularly in a SOFA-covered or ACS context.
- Familiarity with Italian administrative procedures including Soggiorno Permit processes, INPS/INAIL documentation, and Questura requirements.
- Associate’s degree or higher in Languages, Translation, Intercultural Communication, or a related field.
🌍 Put your bilingual skills to work where they matter most — supporting American families navigating real life in Italy, every afternoon.
🤝 Join a team that has served the Vicenza ACS community since 2022 and has earned consistent praise from the families it serves.
📋 Part-time afternoons with stable hours.
